Tik Tok Pilipinas » 10 Quick and Painless Things You Can Do To Help Save the Climate

Tik Tok Pilipinas » 10 Quick and Painless Things You Can Do To Help Save the Climate

It’s common knowledge that the world is a ticking carbon dioxide bound time bomb, and every moment we spend ignoring the state of our climate hammers down the nails on the earth’s tomb. Rather than lamenting our impending doom, however, why not do something about it?

If you’re scared of jumping into commitment, however, or if the thought of making major life changes freak you out, here are ten climate-saving tips that literally seem like a piece of cake, or a walk in the park – whichever you prefer:

1. Disengage.
This also applies to transformers and voltage regulators. When left plugged or on standby, your home appliances are still using energy – and that’s energy you pay for that benefits no one. Hitting that power button and unplugging your appliances when not in use saves you roughly P2300 a year.

2. Whip out the clothesline.
Forego the clothes dryer and hang your laundry out in the sun to dry instead. Clothes dryers average 1,600 watts of energy per hour, so if you wash and dry your clothes every two weeks, that computes to around P120 slashed off your monthly electric bill.

3. Eat everything on your plate.
Or at least just take, cook or buy only as much food as you can finish. Uneaten food that goes straight to the garbage adds to the trash you produce, and when you reduce food waste you automatically decrease your carbon emissions.

4. Check your tire pressure constantly.
Optimal tire pressure helps your car burn fuel more efficiently. If you own a car and are looking to get more mileage from your vehicle, keeping your tires inflated right hits two birds with one stone – it reduces your carbon emissions while giving you more value for money.

5. Keep a close watch on your air filter.
Score another one for the motorists: replacing or cleaning out your air filters also helps your use your fuel more efficiently. You can have this done along with your tire pressure adjustments whenever you have your oil changed.

6. Better yet, travel on two wheels, or on your own two feet.
Walking or biking beats a fuel efficient vehicle every time. Because neither mode of transport requires the burning of fossil fuels, choosing the heel over the steering wheel is the best way to cut back on carbon while still getting to your destination.

7. The matter of meat.
Most Pinoys love eating meat so much that it’s a non-negotiable, even when it comes to climate advocacy. However, the slightest reduction in meat consumption can still impact your total carbon emission, so for every week, make at least 3 to 5 meals meat-less. Remember, a little effort goes a long way!

8. Spare the pulp.
Rainforests are Mother Nature’s very own carbon dioxide regulating systems. Without their gallant stewardship, we wouldn’t be here today! We need to keep them alive and flourishing if we want to stay in the game. So be it tissue, a note pad, office documents, paper coffee cups, or store paper bags, think twice – there is always an alternative to paper!

9. Lighten up.
You’ve probably deduced by now that the more fuel or energy efficient you are, the less carbon dioxide emissions you make. The same rule stands for lighting – fluorescent bulbs trump incandescent bulbs every time, which is win-win for everyone since it’s both carbon and cost efficient.

10. Shop wisely.
On your grocery or mall run, bring a sizable canvas tote and stash everything you buy inside. This saves you and the businesses you support on plastic bags. This habit not only reduces your waste but also lessens the need for production of problematic plastic.

So really, you don’t need to make any grand gestures of environmental activism – climate action can be as simple as making more responsible choices in your daily life.

What is LOVE?

What is Love ... ?

  • Love is a slow kiss goodnight. It’s anticipation.
  • Love is flirting outrageously and still remembering that the person at your side is not obligated to do anything. It’s respect.
  • Love is an imperfection in yourself not bothering you. It’s acceptance.
  • Love is passing up an opportunity because the time isn’t right yet. It’s patience.
  • Love is a back massage that starts above the hairline and ends around the insoles. It’s exploration.
  • Love is not having to say “Let’s make love,” because you know what the other person wants. It’s understanding.
  • Love is being given an honest chance to say no when you thought you were committed. It’s consideration.
  • Love is both of you remembering protection. It’s responsibility.
  • Love is saying the perfect phrase to make a solemn embrace dissolve into giggles. It’s humor.
  • Love is being told “Stop and I’ll kill you”. It’s desire.
  • Love is reviewing the damage to your living room and realizing personal effects are strewn in a clockwise pattern from the front door to the bedroom. It’s abandonment.
  • Love is seeing what your lover really looks like for the first time. It’s truth.
  • Love is knowing what time it is and not caring. It’s joy.
  • Love is the arms around you tightening their embrace. It’s ecstasy.
  • Love is seeing a new side of a person you thought you knew. It’s renewal.
  • Love is telling a person if you have to leave, you will let them sleep, and being told they would rather be woken. It’s tenderness.
  • Love is waking up to find the subject of the dream you were having asleep on your shoulder. It’s where fantasy meets reality.
  • Love is being there to wake your lover. Slowly. It’s sensuousness.
  • Love is belatedly knowing why you bothered to buy a queen-sized bed three years ago. It’s practicality.
  • Love is two people only taking up a third of a queen-sized bed. It’s closeness.
  • Love is knowing you gave the extra set of keys to your apartment to the right person. It’s trust.
  • Love is saying good-bye and knowing you will be back by mutual consent. It’s faith.
  • Love is stretching your arms and discovering the real meaning of the word “sore”. It’s a lesson in human frailty.
  • Love is opening your medicine cabinet and finding your tube of toothpaste turned into a pretzel. It’s adaptation.
  • Love is sitting at the window, looking out and remembering who you were with the night before. It’s reflection.
  • Love is hearing the weather forecast for a winter storm and wishing you could spend it in bed with your lover. It’s loneliness.
  • Love is stories that will never be told. It’s personal.

Better Today

You see it all in my smile
You hear it all in my laugh
The way I walk you hear me talkin,
No, I'm no longer sad
I've got more reason to smile
More now than I've ever had
Open my eyes and realized
That nothing's quite that bad

I've got a different approach
To dealin' with emotion
Keeping control of my boat
While drifting on this ocean
Keepin my head to the sky
Keepin tears outta my eyes
Unless happiness be the reason
That I decide to cry

And lifes too short to dwell on all that's wrong
Stand up now
Stand up now and I promise not before long

Chorus
You'll be feelin better today
Much better today, much better today
So much better
Feelin' better today
Much better today, much better today
Much better today
(repeat)

Feelin so much better

I know about down and out
I know about when it gets tough
Losing the fight, you see the light,
And you just want to give up
I know about being depressed
About leaving someone you love
I also know about standing up
And saying enough is enough

I've got a different approach
To dealin' with emotion
Keeping control of my boat
While drifting on this ocean
Keeping my head to the sky
Keeping tears outta my eyes
Unless happiness be the reason
That I decide to cry
And lifes too short to dwell on all that's wrong

Stand up now
Stand up now, and I promise not before long

Chorus
You'll be feelin better today
Much better today, much better today
So much better
Feelin' better today
Much better today, much better today
Much better today
(repeat)

Feeling so much better

Ahhh aaaahhh aaaahh

Oooooooooo
what will I give I tried
I could fly away right now
Hold me cause I finally found my smile

Chorus
You'll be feelin better today
Much better today, much better today
So much better
Feelin' better today
Much better today, much better today
Much better today

Study Habits

When I was still in college, my usual online status was "StuDying = Student Dying" because I really am serious when it comes to studying and reviewing my notes.

Being a teacher, I have the privilege to observe my students' study habits. I think that they have a lot of spare time in their hand to spend time with friends, shop, eat, or just hand out. BUT... most of them are still having problems coping with schoolwork.

Let's see why.

Study Habits
by Mr. Macchiato

1. Cramming is never new.
You will see a lot of students reviewing during the last minute or even second before an exam. Why is this so? Continue reading.

2. Procrastination is the culprit.
Whenever a student has a scheduled quiz or major exam most of them are:
a. at home - watching television, playing video games, sleeping
b. a friend's house - playing video games, chatting, inuman!
c. a bar /resto - inuman!
d. a coffee shop - tumatambay with or studying with a friend, leeching off free wifi.
e. the library - with a book / notebook on one hand and a computer mouse on the other. After 15 minutes of reading, you'll hear the sound of the keyboard and see www.facebook.com in the address bar. Haha! Then the "studious" student will spend 30-60 minutes in front of the computer depending on the game he/she is playing or if a lot of buddies are online.

3. Preparing the reviewer.
After reading the notes and speding more than an hour highlighting important terms and paragraphs on the poor textbook, the student now prepares his/her reviewer on a long bond paper folded in half.

4. Whine / B*tch / Complain time.
The student then realizes that he/she is missing a lot of gimmicks and night-outs because of the schoolwork and starts logging-in at YM, sends pm's to his/her friends and complain how busy this week is. If not, the student starts blogging or twitting about how hard this subject is, and curses the books, the professors, and whoever wrote these f*cking theories. "Hindi ko naman yan magagamit pag-graduate ko!" lines will surely be seen. This usually last for about 45 mins to one hour.

5. The idle moments.
After releasing some of the anger, the student will get bored or sleepy so he/she will go out for a walk, grab a bite, make coffee OR, go to www.facebook.com. Lasts for about 30 minutes for facebooking or an hour for sleeping / eating.

6. Study time.
The student then realizes that it's 12 midnight and his/her class will start at 8am. Time to read the reviewer! If the subject is full of terms, he/she will spend 2-4 hours memorizing important dates, persons, jargon and whatnot. And that is interrupted by text messages, calls, facebooking and sometimes the student will just find him/herself sleeping on top of the book or the keyboard.
If the student is still awake, he/she will just decide to sleep and wake up earlier than usual to study. But only 2 out of 10 students can actually do this.

7. Post exam events.
After taking the exam, the student rushes out of the classroom and takes out the notes or reviewers to check if his/her answers were correct. Then you'll hear "Nasagutan mo ba ung number 2?", "Aaa! Sabi na nga ba yun yung sagot eh! Bakit pinalitan ko pa?!", "Hahaha. Mali yung spelling ko!", "Parang hindi naman tinuro sa atin to ah!"

There.

-----
Kaya nakakainis pag nakakakita ka ng mga students mo na nagfafacebook lang kahit na may mga exam kinabukasan!

One of the Boys

Album of the month is:
"One of the Boys"
by Katy Perry

My top picks:
1. Thinking of You - Can I just say that this song suits me really really well right now? Haha
2. Waking Up in Vegas
3. Hot n Cold
4. One of The Boys
5. Ur So Gay

Thinking Of You

Comparisons are easily done
Once you've had a taste of perfection
Like an apple hanging from a tree
I picked the ripest one, I still got the seed

You said move on, where do I go?
I guess second best is all I will know

'Cause when I'm with him I am thinking of you
(Thinking of you, thinking of you)
Thinking of you, what you would do
If you were the one who was spending the night
(Spending the night, spending the night)
Oh, I wish that I was looking into your eyes

You're like an Indian summer in the middle of winter
Like a hard candy with a surprise center
How do I get better once I've had the best?
You said there's tons of fish in the water, so the waters I will test

He kissed my lips, I taste your mouth, oh!
(Taste your mouth)
He pulled me in, I was disgusted with myself

'Cause when I'm with him I am thinking of you
(Thinking of you, thinking of you)
Thinking of you, what you would do
If you were the one who was spending the night
(Spending the night, spending the night)
Oh, I wish that I was looking into

You're the best, and yes, I do regret
How I could let myself let you go
Now, now the lesson's learned
I touched it, I was burned
Oh, I think you should know!

'Cause when I'm with him I am thinking of you
(Thinking of you, thinking of you)
Thinking of you, what you would do
If you were the one who was spending the night
(Spending the night, spending the night)
Oh, I wish that I was looking into your, your eyes
Looking into your eyes, looking into your eyes

Oh, won't you walk through?
And bust in the door and take me away?
Oh, no more mistakes
'Cause in your eyes I'd like to stay, stay

House Arrest.

I'm now on day 9 of my house arrest and I'd like to keep that on a single digit. Damn.

Some of you might be asking why the hell am I punishing myself but lord knows that I didn't ask for this. Haha.

Two Saturdays ago, Ondoy (Ketsana), a tropical storm entered the Philippines and showered us with a month's worth of rain. The rain started pouring around one in the morning (yea I know cause I was out till around 5am) and it didn't stop till noon. So the result? FLOOD. And I mean massive flood allover NCR.

This was the first time that the water reached the first step of our stairs going to the second floor. The flood was about waist-deep outside and knee-deep inside the office.

School was canceled for a week allover the metro and in some provinces. The flood remained there until Thursday night. Next morning, everybody rejoiced at the sight of dry land. Haha. But hold that thought, another typhoon is making it's way to the Philippines.

Typhoon Pepeng (Parma) was predicted to hit land around the next day. Ookkkaaay. Friday night, it started raining really hard and low and behold, the water came rushing back... FLOOD.

Until this moment, there is still flood outside our house. About more or less a foot deep. It's gradually subsiding now and we are all praying that it won't rain again for about a week.

Thank goodness, our house is really on the second floor and the first floor is solely the office. We have food, water, and other basic necessities needed for survival.

So that's about it. I'm really hoping that I get to leave this house tomorrow cause I badly need a haircut. Haha.

No One Like You.

This song gets me EVERY TIME.

Just read the lyrics, listen to the song, and watch the movie clip of "Powder".

No One Like You

And we too will it not be soft and kind
That rest from life
from patience and from pain
That rest from bliss
we know not when we find
How can I have enough of life and love

In your eyes are my secrets
that I've never shown you
In my heart I feel
I've always known you
In your arms there's a comfort
that I never knew
You're what I've been waiting for
there's no one like you

Sure as the sunrise
pure as a prayer
You fashioned hope
right out of thin air
Every dream I abandoned
seems it could come true
I believe in miracles
there's no one like you

Innocent as a newborn
in a world so frightening
It's as if my world's
been struck by lightning
Every dream I abandoned,
seems it could come true
I believe in miracles,
there's no one like you.

It's Too Late

Nakupo talaga o.

Fail.

Okay, I kinda had this "twitter love affair" for the past couple of months. I thought that he's the one but I also know that a relationship like this would be too much impossible.

We haven't seen each other yet. He said that he'll visit me this coming November but I doubt that it will still happen. We only talk over the phone, exchange text messages and twits, and chat using msn.

I was happy, really happy at first then after a few weeks, the texts, twits, and chats stopped in a snap. I dunno what happened. It wasn't clear. I was left hanging and hoping.

Of course I got sad but I really don't know what too feel and how to react because I'm stuck waiting. I gave him a week, then another week until I got tired. He really doesn't have to explain now... I know.. I understand.

Yesterday, my friends keep on asking me if I were okay. So I told them what happened and they were all surprised because the last time that we were together, I am still all excited and nothing in the world can erase the smile off my face. My two best friends got sad after hearing my story. They comforted me and told me everything's gonna be fine. I was laughing all the while and assured them that I am okay.

Sad? Yea but this is life. I get hurt, then I move on.

Sadness kills me. It's lethal.

The Fame Redux

September still smells Gaga.

Haha I know I know. I've already featured Lady Gaga's album for the month of June but can you blame me?

Seeing her perform live totally redefined Lady Gaga to me. She is one of the best performers today. Yea, not just a singer, she's everything.

Now, I have a different order of my top songs. Haha.

1. Love Game - This song made history, well at least for me. And yea, this can actually make me dance. Haha. Have you seen my disco stick?
2. Eh, eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) - This is my "feel good" song. Haha. Though the lyrics is kinda sad, the melody itself gave it a new meaning. eh eh?
3. Paparazzi - The perfect karaoke song. Haha. Great to play on the violin too. Yay!
4. Just Dance - Gonna be ok da da do do. Make sure you turn your speakers up.
5. Poker Face - This song spells Gaga.

Gaga!

OMG!!!

I'm still having PCD (Post Concert Depression) from Lady Gaga's concert last night. Me and Chris decided to watch like a day before the show so goodbye good seats! Haha

But good thing we did because I think I'll die if I miss the show. This is by far the greatest live concert performance that I have seen (Okay except Sarah Brightman :D)! I mean like really, WOW. This girl really performs like a goddess and she knows how to make her audience scream, shout, sing, and jump like crazy!

We were seated all the way up but it did not matter. The disappointment vanished when Lady Gaga started rocking on the stage. Yay! No one can beat her quirkiness.

Here is the set-list of the concert. I'm really not sure if I can list this chronologically. Forgive me. Haha

1. Paparazzi
2. LoveGame
3. Beautiful, Dirty, Rich
4. Money Honey
5. The Fame
6. Boys boys boys
7. Just Dance
8. Brown Eyes
9. Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)
10. Poker Face - Acoustic, Sexy, Hot, Horny Version
11. Poker Face

The concert only lasted for more or less an hour. It was so bitin but we had real fun nonetheless.

Do I still need to say it? Yea, I'm a FAN.

Quotable Quotes:

From Lady Gaga's twitter:

"Just headlined my first arena ALONE, after opening for years. Thank you manila, never forget u. Luv my fans so much, u r the reason I'm here"

From the Concert:
"You know somebody asked me very recently a very strange question . They said, Lady Gaga, do you have a dick? And I said, Yes I do and it's much bigger than yours."

"I have a confession to make. I've cried like 6 times during the show I didn't tell anybody. And I didn't want you to read my poker face but the truth is I love you so so much and it kills me."

"This goes out for all the motherfuckers out there who did not believe in me!"

"Thank you Manila. Love you so much Philippines."

"Where's all my gay kids in the audience?"

"Where's all my gay boys?!"

"My best friend is from the Philippines."

"I love Manilaaaaaaaaaaaaa."

Hahahaha.

Crazy Little Children

Since I started teaching more than a year ago, this was the first time that I walked-out of my class.

This particular batch is infamous for their rowdy attitude and I am not the only teacher complaining about them.

I got inside the room at 1:00 pm, checked the attendance and starting writing my lecture on the board. I can hear people talking and phones beeping. I tried to stay cool and focused on what I was doing. Then come the discussion, a lot of them still were chatting with their friends who were seated in front or behind them. Whispering is kinda ok but their voice was as loud, or louder than mine. I am still recovering from my cough and I lost my voice last Monday.

I called their attention for the first time.

Discussion continued but their talking went on again. I looked down and moved my head to show that I am disappointed, then I went out of the room. After a minute, I went back in and asked them if they were ready to listen to what I was saying.

But while I was speaking in front of the class, some of them continued discussing topics of their own. So without saying anything, I picked my things and went out of the room for the second time and headed back to the faculty room.

I WAS PISSED AT THEM BIG TIME.

I really am sorry for those students who wanted to listen and learn. But I can't stand their classmates' uncivilized attitudes.

RIP Tita Cory

Yesterday was the funeral of the Philippines' first woman president, Mrs. Corazon C. Aquino. And while on our way home, we witnessed the cortege making its way to Manila Memorial Park.

We waited on the road for like 40 minutes but it was all worth it. All cars at SLEX stopped and people rushed to the street just to witnessed this historic event.

Good thing I brought my camera with me and snapped away. It was truly a moving experience for me.

Fearless

Album of the month is:
"Fearless"
by Taylor Swift

I was a little unsure of this album the minute I acquired a copy. But after some time, things changed and I began to love the songs. Taylor is a very talented singer/songwriter in her own rights.

Here are my top picks:
1. You Belong With Me - Alam na kung bakit. Haha
2. Love Story
3. Fearless
4. The Way I Love You
5. Change

You Belong With Me

You’re on the phone with your girlfriend, shes upset
Shes going off about something that you said
Cause she doesn’t get your humor like I do
I’m in my room, it’s a typical Tuesday night
I’m listening to the kind of music she doesn’t like
And she’ll never know your story like I do

But she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts
She’s cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up
And find what you’re looking for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I’m the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can’t you see
You belong with me, you belong with me

Walkin’ the streets with you and your worn-out jeans
I can’t help thinking this is how it ought to be
Laughing on a park bench, thinking to myself
Hey isn’t this easy

And you’ve got a smile that could light up this whole town
I haven’t seen it in a while since she brought you down
You say you’re fine, I know you better then that
Hey whatcha doing with a girl like that

She wears high heels, I wear sneakers
[ Taylor Swift Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
Shes cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find
That what you’re looking for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I’m the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can’t you see
You belong with me
Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know baby
You belong with me, you belong with me

Oh, I remember you drivin’ to my house in the middle of the night
I’m the one who makes you laugh, when you know you’re ’bout to cry
And I know your favorite songs and you tell me ’bout your dreams
Think I know where you belong, think I know it’s with me

Can’t you see that I’m the one who understands you
Been here all along, so why can’t you see
You belong with me
Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time How could you not know
Baby you belong with me, you belong with me
You belong with me
Have you ever thought just maybe you belong with me
You belong with me

Angel in the Night

A few days ago, I was listening to music on my iTunes, hoping to hear to unplayed songs in my library. I put it on shuffle when this particular song played. I fell in love with it instantaneously.

The song is called "Angel in the Night" by Basshunter. It's Eurodance, a genre of Electronica (if I'm not mistaken).

Angel in the Night

You are, my light in the dark
You are, the beating in my heart
But that is not enough, will I ever be by your side

Your hair is dancing in the wind
Your eyes are burning up my skin
And I'm so happy when I see, that you are smiling back at me
You are leaving burnmarks on the ground
Thank you God, for what I've found
I don't know how, I don't know why
But you're my angel in the night

You are, my light in the dark
You are, the beating in my heart
Let me hold you now, just like the days before you start to cry
You are, my light in the dark
You are, the beating in my heart
But that is not enough, will I ever be by your side

"Prepare For Launch In 3.. 2.. 1"

I try my best to satisfy, but all you do is wave me goodbye
I don't know what I'm gonna do, but I'm so crazy about you
Even if I don't know where to start
Even if my love is tearing me apart
I just know, that you and me
We are always meant to be

You are, my light in the dark
You are, the beating in my heart
Let me hold you now, just like the days before you start to cry
You are, my light in the dark
You are, the beating in my heart
But that is not enough, will I ever be by your side

"3..2.. 1"
You're my angel in the night

PLDT

Here we go again.

PLDT never fails to piss me off.

Every year, our DSL f*cks up. It lasts for like a week but sometimes for two months! We pay our bill regularly but PLDT (I think) intentionally cuts our connection.

Why?

Because our connection dies every 6pm and will not return until 7am. I have a feeling that they are sharing our line to other subscribers. And when you call their customer service, the CSR just gives me crap like I don't know what he/she was talking about. HAHA.

Here are some lame lines that I hear from them:
1. Did you pay your monthly bill?
2. Our lines freeze because it is cold.
3. We are undergoing a maintenance.
4. Your line must be static.
5. Is your modem turned on? (DUH!)
6. Do you have a dial tone? (Yea cause I'm talking to you!)
7. The lines are screwed because of the rain.

Oh well PLDT, I think it's time for us to report you NTC again like what we did two years ago.

Mind you, after sending the letter to NTC, we immediately got our connection back in less than 24 hours.

When I Was Little...

- I thought that little people lived inside televisions and radios.
- I thought that there was a little rooster inside my alarm clock.
- I thought that the earth had different moons - one for each phase.
- I thought that air conditioners contain ice blocks.
- I thought that ants can talk to each other like in movies.
- I thought that our voice travels through telephone lines.
- I thought that my toys come to life at night.
- I thought that the sun has an ON/OFF switch.
- I thought that airplanes land on clouds.
- I thought that clouds were made from smoke coming out of factories.
- I believed that I can communicate with my mom just by looking at the ceiling.

More will be added as my brain gets in tune. Haha

Twitter Incident.

Last week, someone followed me in Twitter. Clue: Her username will remind you of Finding Nemo, waves, and Titanic. Haha

At the first few days, she was cool, harmless and I actually exchanged a number of twits with her. But one morning, while checking twits on my iPhone, she posted one reply to me. She said that I had posted something on her msn profile and stuff.

Now I really don't have any idea about what the heck she was talking about. Then after explaining to her that I did not do it, she transformed and became cool again.

But hold that thought, after a couple of days, she again twitted accusatory messages directed to me about her msn profile. Now I think she's gone way beyond my limit. I dunno if she's schizophrenic or what.

I sent one reply and un-followed her immediately. As much as I wanted to, I decided not to fight with her. Then I tried to go back to normal and started twitting again. But now she's all paranoid. She thinks that my twits concern her. WTF?

Update: She following me again and replying to my twits like nothing happened before. I don't want to get involved or anything with her again.

A(H1N1)

This A(H1N1) virus aka swine flu is really driving me insane. According to the news, there are already 92 confirmed cases of the said virus here in the Philippines and a lot are still waiting for the test results.

It's really scary for me because my work requires to be around students every time. Sometimes I also come face to face with them especially when they ask questions or when I roam around the classroom to check their work. Of course, as a teacher, I also need to care for the health of my students but I don't want to cause panic.

I'm scared that I might acquire the virus from them, or the other way around - me passing them the virus. Waaa!

Since last week, I've been taking my vitamins regularly to strengthen my immune system. All of the employees at the school were also required to get a flu vaccine.

We always remind the students to wash or sanitize their hands especially after going to the restroom, touching door knobs, money, keys, etc. You can never be too safe. Haha

When will this virus stop spreading? The government really needs to think of a solution to mitigate the problem.

Work it is.

I was not really hoping that I would get this much teaching load. I currently have 5 subjects and another 2 might still be added. I really don't complain because I will be paid per hour. Haha

I only have one challenge this term - that is to teach Math. Yea, MATH. I never really hated this subject before. In fact, I love math when I was in grade school. But all of these changed when I received my first 75 grade in geometry during high school. Damn.

After two weeks of teaching, I really am enjoying my math class. I dunno why but I just love it when I speak in front of the class and all of my students are attentively listening to me. I just hope that they understand what I teach them.

My other subjects are just a repeat from the previous terms but it does not mean that I will not take those classes seriously. Imagine teaching the same subject for like two to three times a day. Haha.

This batch of freshmen is a bit different from last year cause most of them are eager to listen and learn. Of course there are a few who don't seem to care about the lessons so let's just see how will they do when examination day comes.

Oh and I have a 6-9pm class again. Yea, this schedule is very tiring for me. Thank God I told my mom that I don't like to handle any elementary class this time. Kids those age aren't really my thing.

PS. This A(H1N1) outbreak is really starting to scare the sh*t out of me. Who knows one student of mine has the virus? NOoooo!

Back to Work / School?

Work or School?
Work and School?

Been enjoying every single day of my vacation but it will soon end. I was not expecting too much from my previous job; whether they still give me a schedule or not. So I thought of just going back to school and take my Masters this time.

Our family business is an academic institution and before I can handle it, I must have a Masteral Degree in Educational Management. My parents told me that they will let me and my sisters decide if we still wish to continue this business. It's hard to let go of the school because it has been operating since 1974.

I got a text from our course coordinator earlier telling me that I still have a load this coming term. I felt happy, shocked and sad all at the same time cause I have lots of other plans to do for the next school year.

Anyways, I still have to think about several things before making any decisions.

Job = Money.

I'll just keep that in mind.

Nikon D40

Weee! Last week, I finally bought my very first DSLR. I've been wanting this camera for a very long time. Haha

I asked my mom and dad to accompany me because I heard that camera supplies are very cheap in Hidalgo, Quiapo. I've never been there so might as well ask someone who is familiar with the place.

We arrived at Quiapo and walked for like 15 minutes to reach Hidalgo St. But all camera shops were still closed at 9am so we decided to hear mass at Quiapo Church. It was also my first time to enter the famous Philippine Church so it was a very nice experience.

After the mass, we returned to Hidalgo and found a number of shops already open. We asked for the price and finally decided to buy at 24K Photo Inc.

I really know nothing about photography and whatnot. My only knowlegde came from watching videos on YouTube and reading online tutorials. Haha. Anyways, like what they always say... Keep shooting!

Declaration.

Album for this month:
"Declaration"
by David Cook

I've seen Cook's journey in AI and how unique his style was compared to the rest of the contestants. I love his cover of the Mariah original "Always Be My Baby" and Webber's "Music of the Night".

His album Declaration was not very surprising in the sense of his music style. Overall, I would rate this album as Good because I was hoping for something more. I just felt that something is missing; maybe I just find the songs to be very monotonous. Don't hate me for saying these please. Haha. I still love David.

Anyhow, here are my top song picks:
1. Light On
2. Declaration
3. Lie
4. Mr. Senstitive
5. Permanent

Permanent

Is this the moment where i look you in the eye?
Forgive my broken promise that you`ll never see me cry
And everything, it will surely change even if i tell you i won`t go away today
Will you think that you`re all alone
When no one`s there to hold your hand?
And all you know seems so far away and everything is temporary rest your head
I`m permanent

I know he`s living in hell every single day
And so i ask oh god is there some way for me to take his place
And when they say it`s all touch and go i wish i could make it go away

But still you say
Will you think that you`re all alone when no one`s there to hold your hand?
When all you know seems so far away and everything is temporary, rest your head
I`m permanent
I`m permanent

Is the moment where i look you in the eye?
Forgive my promise that you`ll never see me cry

Internet Symphony Eroica

A few months back, YouTube announced that they will be picking musicians all around the world for the very first YouTube Symphony Orchestra. The search is open for all professional and amateur musicians. They provided a sheet music for interested individuals and was available for download. The piece is called "The Internet Symphony Eroica"composed by Tan Dun. You must also submit another piece aside from the one mentioned previously.

I tried to practice the violin part but I failed. Haha. No time to practice and it was kinda too advanced for me. Haha. Anyways, I'm so happy seeing the winners of the search and felt proud for them.

The chosen applicants played at Carnegie Hall last April 15, 2009. Here's a vid of their marvelous performance.

Life Support.

For almost three weeks now, I've been experiencing severe headaches. It starts usually during the afternoon and it will only stop when I close my eyes at night. Only the left side of my head hurts and the pain is severe on my temple. Sometimes my toothache also contributes to my agony. I really should visit my dentist anytime soon.

I could still bear the pain during the first week but it's like slowly getting worse and it's scaring me a little. Sometimes I bang my head on the wall or the table because it really hurts a lot. A day won't pass without me taking a Paracetamol, Mefenamic Acid or Ibuprofen. It's like I'm only functioning by drinking these meds (Well I have other meds too you know.) It's been quite a while that I have been taking medications regularly and it sucks if I may say.

Last night when I was about to sleep, my headache started and my tummy got upset. I wanted to throw up but was too lazy to get up so I just closed my eyes, curled up like a ball and waited for myself to fall asleep. Then a couple of hours ago, while feeding Tofu, I kinda got dizzy and my sight slightly got blurred. It's like I'm not wearing my eyeglasses when surely I am. I had to refocus my eyes so that my vision will be straight again. Hmmm...

Well I don't wanna worry my mom a lot but I had no choice but to tell her. She said that we'll go to the doctor one of these days to get a CAT Scan at and MRI. I don't know what to think... Or maybe it's about time to not think very much. Haha.

I'm still enjoying my worry-free vacation and I love waking up late and just watching the TV or the baby. Haha. It just spoils my day when my headache attacks. I'm also having this extreme sensitivity to light whenever I have these headaches. Oh well.

He Killed a MBA!

OMG.

I was really breathless while watching this video. This dude seriously hates his MacBook Air and literally stuck a knife in it. What the hell was he thinking? Who will say that an IBM is better than a MBA?

I bet he is an employee of IBM or something like that. Haha. He could have just given that MBA to me. Haha

Geez.

Wonder if he'll put that on eBay.

Forums.

I've been a member of numerous online communities -especially forums- since the day that I got my own laptop and unlimited internet connection. These forums help me connect with other people that share the same interest as mine like artists, actors, bands, gadgets, etc.

Forums contributed a lot to my knowledge about different facts, tips, reviews and whatnot about something or someone. People in there are most of the time polite, friendly and courteous. But there is one particular forum that, for me, kind of changed.

As the years passed, the number users grew and a lot of newbies surfaced. Of course the purpose of people in joining these groups is to learn a thing or two about a gadget or device. But some long-time members of this forum feel that they are more superior than others especially the new people. They are somewhat intimidating like with their replies to the posts of other users. A number of users with higher authority oftentimes scare newbies or sometimes even veterans too.

How hard is it to answer a query politely instead of being sarcastic? People join these groups to seek help; not to receive mockery in any way.

For example:

Post: "Hi! My computer suddenly turned off. Please help!"
Reply: "Google is your friend my dear."
or
Post: "Is this model better than the other?"
Reply: "Use the search function. That's why it's there."

No wonder why a lot of these newbies never post again or even return.

Based on my experience, I find several users there who are "mayabang" and "feeling sosyal". There's nothing wrong with that as long as you know how to deal with different types of people. They might not have all the gadgets that you own but that does not give you the right to be rude to them.

Remember that you were once a newbie too and finding you way through that site.

I still visit that forum regularly because I usually get my daily gadget fix there. I just see to it that I do not join a dicussion or post something unless I have enough knowledge in a topic so that I can defend myself. Haha

I will not mention names here cause I might get in trouble. Haha.

To all Mac Haters.

What will happen if you let an avid and long time Windows expert use a Mac for two weeks?

"There's a reason for that similarity, of course: Microsoft took the idea from Apple. After all, why not steal from the best?"

"When it comes to applications that ship with the operating system, Mac OS X beats Windows hands-down. The iLife suite of applications -- including iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band and iWeb -- is superior to anything you'll find in Windows."

"If you haven't yet touched or used a MacBook Air, take it from me: This is the most beautiful piece of hardware you'll ever see."

"For PC users, Mac OS X takes some getting used to, but once I did, I found it a more elegant, polished piece of work than Windows."

"Overall, though, Mac OS X beats Windows. There, I've said it."

- Preston Gralla
If you are a PC then this article might persuade you to make the switch.

Baby Josiah!

Finally! I'm an uncle and soon to be a godfather!

Last April 8, 2009, my eldest sister gave birth to a 6.2 lbs baby boy named Josiah Paul. He's the cutest baby I've ever seen! Awww.

It was supposed to be a normal delivery because my sister started to experience labor pain since Monday, April 6. But after seeing the x-ray, her OB/GYN decided that the baby must be delivered under a Cesarean section.

I accompanied my sister to the hospital around 2pm then brought her to the delivery suite at 3pm. I was the only one there because her husband was still at work and my parents were finishing something for Church. I sat at the waiting area, feeling anxious and hungry. Finally, her husband came and went inside to talk her and the nurses. Then he went out and informed me that the operation will start at exactly 5pm. Okay, we still have an hour and a half to wait.

I kept on calling my mom and telling them to hurry up. Haha. They arrived 10 minutes before 5pm. We sat, waited and prayed that everything would be fine.

After 31 minutes, the nurse approached us and said that the baby is out. She asked us to follow her inside and told us to wait for 5 minutes before they bring the baby to us. Awww.. There he is - baby Josiah.

The feeling of happiness and excitement crawled in me as I looked at his tiny hands and feet. Mom told me that babies cannot see yet but he looked at us one by one; as if he knew the people surrounding him.

Awww.

Funhouse.

Album of the Moth:
"Funhouse"
by Pink

I never thought that I would like Pink this much. Haha. After five days of listening, here are my top picks:

1. Funhouse - Strange lyrics but this is my favorite! Haha. I think the song talks about destroying the past (memories/relationships) and creating a new life.
2. So What - Awesome. A strong song with a killer attitude.
3. Please Don't Leave Me - Talks about the craziness of being in love. You want to stop but still can't let go.
4. Glitter in the Air - A song that speaks about life's simple joys. And a reminder that it's never too late to experience new things.
5. Crystal Ball - Simple melody and lyrics. It says that you have to face every challenge in your life willingly. No one can tell if you're gonna win or lose, so just go on... And remember that even the crystal ball cracks.

Funhouse

I dance around this empty house
Tear us down
Throw you out
Screaming down the halls
Spinning all around and now we fall

Pictures framing up the past
Your taunting smirk behind the glass
This museum full of ash
Once a tickle
Now a rash

This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down

9, 8, 7, 6 5 4, 3, 2, 1, fun

Echoes knocking on locked doors
All the laughter from before
I'd rather live out on the street
Than in this haunted memory

I've called the movers
Called the maids
We'll try to exorcise this place
Drag my mattress to the yard
Crumble tumble house of cards

This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down

This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down

9, 8, 7, 6 5 4, 3, 2, 1, fun

Oh, I'm crawling through the darkest home
My key don't fit my life no more
I'll change the drapes
I'll break the plates
I'll find a new place
Burn this f**ker down

do do do do dodo do
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dadadada
do do do do dodo do (9, 8, 7, 6 5 4, 3, 2, 1)
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dodo doo

This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down

This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down

New iPhone to run on Windows?

I was browsing the web and came across an article in CNET stating that the new release of iPhone will run Windows Mobile 7.0. WTF?

"It looks like Apple has finally given in to the superiority of the Windows Mobile platform and given up their attempts to take a bigger market share with the current iPhone software platform. In a move that is bound to be met with people filling the streets with joy and happiness, Apple have just announced that the next version of the iPhone will indeed run on Windows Mobile 7." - Jesada Chandraprasert

Oh No. What the heck Apple!?

Earth Hour 2009

Yesterday, March 28, 2009, we participated in celebrating the Earth Hour. The aim is to bring awareness about the climate change that is happening to our planet. At exactly 8:30 pm, people were expected to switch the lights off and other electronic devices for one hour.

Me and Chris wanted to experience Earth Hour outside so we went to Starbucks at Silver City and celebrate it there. But it was disappointing because they did not turn off all the lights completely. Our hopes were high because Starbucks have posters hanged outside and some on the counter so we thought that it would be completely dark out there.

Then after 20 minutes, the McDonals right across the street finally switched almost all of their lights.

I felt a little bit happier when I saw that. Haha

^^ The faces of disappointment. Lol

We went back home and I was surprised to see all the lights (and I mean all) turned off. Even the appliances and the fridge were unplugged. Haha.

I hope that next year will be better.
